Rupture and creation of family relationships is a topic common to the two films screened in the competitive section on Tuesday. The Norwegian film Loveable is an analysis of a relationship between two adults – Maria, a housewife, and Sigmund, a career man. Ostensibly a divorce drama, this debut by writer-director Lilja Ingolfsdottir takes us further, delivering a multilayered character study of a woman experiencing a crisis that leads her to self-knowledge. The film world premiere takes place at the Grand Hall at 5 pm.
The new film Tiny Lights by the renowned director Beata Parkanová, whose drama The Word won the Best Director Award and the Best Actor Award for Martin Finger at the 56th KVIFF, is a probe into disintegrating family captured by a child looking through a keyhole, with her ear pressed against the door, through her eyes at adult-waist height. Amálka experiences abandonment, wandering, touches of love, and pain. Eventually, she returns to herself, transformed by the loss of innocence. The world premiere of this sensitive film starts at the Great Hall at 8 pm.
First-hand brews throughout the year.
