Of the three romantic comedies featured in KVIFF’s Tribute to Nicole Holofcener, Enough Said is the most commercially successful. Starring James Gandolfini, known from The Sopranos, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who received a Golden Globe nomination for her role, the film follows a divorced couple navigating the complexities and pitfalls of middle age.
“It is very important to me that the festival presented as many as three of my films. This gives you a chance to get to know me better,” Nicole Holofcener expressed her gratitude to the festival at the beginning of Tuesday's screening at the Pupp. During the debate, the American director revealed that she will appear in one of the scenes alongside her dog and reminisced about her collaboration with the late James Gandolfini. “Jim was great, he had a wonderful sense of humour. He died before he could see the film. I miss him, and watching this film is very emotional for me,” she shared with the audience. The discussion also touched on the settings of her films, with an audience member asking if she could set her stories outside of Los Angeles or New York. “It’s a subconscious decision. I start off with the characters and wait where they take me,” she said, adding that she couldn’t develop her typically urban characters against the backdrop of Karlovy Vary. “But maybe it could work in Prague. That would be the most beautiful of all my films,” she concluded.
You can catch Holofcener and her films over the next few days in Tribute to Nicole Holofcener section. All the information can be found directly on the festival website.
